Job Description:
Do you like working outdoors? The City of Dover is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Small Engine Mechanic. This position will maintain, diagnose, and repair a variety of landscaping and turf equipment, with a primary focus on batwing lawnmowers, zero turn mowers, blowers, chainsaws, and other small engine machinery.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs repairs, diagnostics, and maintains a variety of small engine equipment, including commercial grade lawnmowers, batwing mowers, bush hogs, string trimmers, edgers, chainsaws, and generators, etc.
- Maintains accurate records of repairs, parts usage, and maintenance schedules.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and fuel system issues.
- Disassemble, repair, and reassemble engines and related components.
- Maintains an inventory of parts and supplies, orders replacements as required and keeps records of items purchased.
- Maintains seasonal equipment, changing equipment over and winterizing as required.
- Performs fabrication and welding to repair equipment.
- Answers off-site service calls.
- Attends to the needs or requests of people and exchanges information with them.
- Performs semi-routine work following procedures, with occasional problems require normal attention for accurate results.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, or GED.
- One year of college or specialized vocational training in related field.
- Two years of related experience with advanced troubleshooting skills, strong mechanical background, and the ability to work independently in a municipal setting.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Keep and maintain your own specific tool inventory.
A criminal background investigation and driver’s license review will be required. Candidates may be given a job-related test during the interview.
