Salary range: Non-Bargaining Grade 124 / $23.65 (Based on Qualifications)

Hours: Part-Time

Job Description:

The City of Dover is currently seeking passionate, dynamic problem solvers to work as a Victim Services Advocate in the Police Department. A part time position, the incumbent is responsible for caseload management, community outreach and crisis Intervention for victims and/or their families. The Victim Services Advocate works independently to carry out these duties, but regularly consults with the Director. Ethical conduct and honest behavior are our basic organizational values. Job Responsibilities

  • Provide trauma informed care to crime victims, survivors, and family members to help them through the aftermath of their victimization either in person or via telephone.
  • Maintain a client caseload that assists crime victims and survivors with navigating the criminal and civil justice system and providing options for assistance.
  • Assist in establishing safety plans and filing of protection orders.
  • Provide assistance by accompanying victims to court and hospitals.
  • Perform administrative duties to include statistical data of client’s information, record keeping, management of case files and daily paperwork.
  • Perform follow up contact to victims and/or families.
  • Maintain and build working relationships with community groups, organizations, and other victim-related service providers to ensure quality care on behalf of the people that are being served.
  • Be proficient in the ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Provide death notifications to next of Kin.
  • Assist Victim Services Coordinator with “on call” response to critical incidents if needed.

Required Skills Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Victims’ Bill of Rights. 
  • Knowledge of services available through local and statewide agencies. 
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention practices and caseload management techniques.
  • Effective written, verbal and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to operate a computer and related software applications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university with course work in social/behavioral sciences, criminal justice or closely related field.
  • At least (2) years of experience in social work or closely related field.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.
  • Must have the ability to be certified by the Board of Managers of Delaware Justice Information System (DELJIS).
