REGULAR MEETING
January 11, 1943
The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Dover was held on the 11th day of January, 1943. The Meeting was called to order by Acting-mayor Keith and on roll call the following members answered “Present”: Messrs. Downes, Hartnett, Burton, Vane, Hinkle and Millman.
MINUTES
Upon motion of Messrs. Millman and Burton, the reading of the Minutes of the last Regular Meeting was dispensed with.
CITY MANAGER’S REPORT
The City Manager’s report for the month of December was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Vane and Burton.
Upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Millman, the City Manager was authorized to furnish electric current free of charge for the Red Cross work in the old Diamond State Telephone Building.
FINANCIAL REPORT
The financial report for the month of December was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Hinkle.
ALDERMAN’S REPORT
The Alderman’s report for the month of December was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Hinkle. A check amounting to $123.00 was turned over to the City Manager with the report of 20 arrests.
POLICE REPORT
The monthly and annual reports of the Chief of Police were read by the Clerk and approved upon motion of Messrs. Hinkle and Millman.
FIRE MARSHALL
Upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Hinkle, the Chief of the Robbins Hose Company, Thomas E. Baker, was appointed Fire Marshall for the ensuing year.
DISCOUNT ALLOWED
Upon motion of Messrs. Hartnett and Downes, the City Manager was instructed to allow Mr. James M. Satterfield the regular discounts for water rent and City taxes for the year 1942 assessed against the Letherbury property and which Mr. Satterfield purchased in December, 1941.
WATER RENTS LIENS
Upon motion of messrs. Downes and Burton, the City Solicitor was instructed to prepare a bill to to present to the State Legislature, making water rents, assessed by the City, liens on City property.
PURCHASE OF FIREMEN’S HATS
Upon motion of Messrs. Vane and Hinkle, the City manager was authorized to purchase twelve (12) hats to be used by the Auxiliary Firemen of the Robbins Hose Company.
REFUND
Upon motion of Messrs. Downes and Keith, the City Clerk was instructed to draw an order on the treasury for $15.00, representing a refund for the fine paid by Clifton Short for illegal storage of gasoline within the City limits.
COMMITTEE FOR HOLD CITY ELECTION
The following members, being hold-over members of the City Council, were appointed to hold the City Election on the afternoon of January 18th between the hours of 1 and 4 P. M.: Messrs. Keith, Vane and Alderman Burton.
