SPECIAL MEETING
April 8, 1957
A special meeting of City Council was held Monday, April 8, 1957, at 2:00 P.M. with Mayor Haman presiding. Councilmen present were Messrs Carroll, Davis, Hayes, Tischer, Turner and Zartman.
Council sat as a Board of Revision and Appeal on Tax Assessments to Hear Appeals and to make correction, additions or alternations in the assessments.
The Century Club requested relief from taxes for their building on The Green, assessed at $12,200, on the grounds that they were a non-profit organization engaged in many civic activities. On motion of Mr. Davis, seconded by Mr. Hayes, Council authorized setting functional depreciation at a total of 40% on improvements and decreasing the assessment correspondingly.
Capitol Grange requested relief from taxes for their building on S. Governors Avenue, assessed at $28,2000, on the grounds that they were a non-profit organization engaged in many civic activities. On motion of Mr. Davis, seconded by Mr. Hayes, Council authorized setting functional depreciation at a total of 40% on improvements and decreasing the assessment accordingly, provided the Grange presents a financial report of their activities as requested.
On motion of Mr. Davis, seconded by Mr. Zartman, Council authorized removal from the assessment list of the following assessments to Gustav Konschak;
H - 229 Wyoming Avenue - $8100
Lot #9 - Monroe Terrace - $500
and adding to the assessment list the following:
H - 965 Monroe Terrace - $8100
On motion of Mr. Tischer, seconded by Mr. Davis, Council rejected the request of Conrad Greenlee to reduce the assessment on his lots on S. Governors Avenue.
On motion of Mr. Zartman, seconded by Mr. Davis, Council denied the request of Myrtle L. Thomas for reduction of the assessment of $3800 on a bungalow at 357 N. New Street.
Council explained to Ida McGonigle the basis of the assessment on her property at 16 The Green.
Council adjourned at 4:55 P.M.
