REGULAR MEETING
August 12th, 1935
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Mayor Woodford with the following members present: Messrs. Millman, LeFevre, Downes, Frear, Burton and Hinkle.
MINUTES
Upon motion of Messrs. Downes and Burton the reading of the minutes of the last regular meeting was dispensed with.
CITY MANAGER’S REPORT
Upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Hinkle, the City Manager’s report for the month of July was accepted as ready by the Clerk and ordered placed in the minutes.
Upon motion of Messrs. LeFevre and Hinkle, the City Manager was authorized to lay a 4” water main from State Street west on Wyoming Avenue approximately 1,000’.
FINANCIAL REPORT
The financial report for the month of July was accepted as ready by the Clerk upon motion of Messrs. Hinkle and Burton.
A LETTER
A letter addressed to the City Council from the Walter L. Fox Post No. 2 American Legion was read by the Clerk. Upon motion of Messrs. LeFevre and Millman, the Secretary was instructed to write a letter to H. E. Haines, Adj. to Walter L. Fox Post, thanking him for the interest taken in the program of making a recreation center out of the valley from the Iron Bridge on the South Little Creek Road north as far as the Mill Dam.
ORDINANCES
An ordinance prepared by City Solicitor Hopkins entitled “An Ordinance to Provide for the Licensing of Photographers, Picture or View Takers, Coupon Salesman, Enlargement Solicitors or Canvassers Within the City of Dover” was read by the City Clerk, and upon motion of Messrs. Downes and LeFevre the Council voted that this ordinance be laid on the table for further consideration.
PETITIONS
A petition signed by several business men and property owners in the vicinity of New & Lockerman Streets asking the City Council to install a new traffic light at the intersection of New & Loockerman Streets was read by the Clerk. Upon motion of Messrs. LeFevre and Downes the City Manager was instructed to investigate this traffic hazzard with the power to act if he thought it advisable to equip this intersection with a traffic light.
A petition was read by the City Clerk for a building to be erected on Queen Street by Jessie Matthews at a cost of $200 to be used as a dwelling and beauty parlor. upon motion of Messrs. LeFevre and Downes this petition was referred to the Building Commission, and they were instructed to investigate this location and the kind of building proposed and make recommendations at the next regular meeting.
PURCHASE OF PROPERTY
Mayor Woodford explained to Council that Mrs. Mollie Harbordt had approached him in behalf of selling the back part of her property to the City. Up motion of Messrs. LeFevre and Downes, the City Council authorized the City Manager to take the matter up with Mrs. Harbordt and get the dimensions of the lot referred to and price to be reported at the next regular meeting.
TAX LIST
The City tax collector was authorized to strike off the following names from the list of head taxes due the City of Dover: Marion Baker, Wm. Bodine, Harry Bodeine, Harry Baumgartner, Joe Bonficino, Sargant Sam Powell, Elmer Collins, Harry Kasloff, W. E. Needles, H. Silverman, Baxley Tharp.
