The City of Dover Electric Department is responsible for the reliability of the electric system as well as the engineering, construction and maintenance of the electric infrastructure. The Electric Team maintains a system that covers 75 square miles and serves approximately 25,000 customers. The City also operates a 43 MW generation station at Van Sant by Schutte Park, maintained by NAES Corporation, that generates electricity for use in Dover and to sell into the regional power market. We are very proud of our reliability and of those employees that work hard everyday to keep the power on for our customers!
There are continual efforts around our footprint to improve and maintain the electric system to include accommodating new services to residences, commercial and industrial customers. We are proud to serve the Dover AFB, Kraft-Heinz, Edgewell Personal Care, Delaware State University, Bay Health/Kent General and Dover Downs as our largest customers and we have worked extremely hard to maintain a healthy partnership with them.
